I haven't yet tested the unit's SACD capabilities, but for normal CDs I was particularly impressed with the clarity of vocals and the soundstage. In this respect, the BDP-150 works extremely well with the rest of the components in my home theatre system. More than once during films such as Master and Commander or Shaun of the Dead, I found myself looking around the room saying 'What's that noise', before realising it was of course part of the movie.
#PIONER BDP150 SKIN#
Colours are vibrant, skin tones look realistic and natural, detail is preserved. The only downside would be that the fascia is made of plastic, which is why I gave the BDP-150 a slightly lower score for Design.

It feels very sturdy, and the black aluminium is very aesthetically pleasing. At AU$148, it's a far cry from higher end players made by the likes of Oppo, Arcam and Cambridge Audio, but any misgivings I had that I was doing myself a disservice by buying a cheaper model were soon swept away after I removed it from the box.

Pros: Excellent picture and sound, Great build quality, Works well in 'connected' homesĪfter having a more expensive, Sony Blu-Ray player break down on me outside of warranty earlier this year, I went in search of a replacement machine that did well in three main areas:Īfter many nights spent reading reviews, manufacturer websites and of course AVS, I settled on the Pioneer BD-150.

Ted, any news from your side on that.PIONEER BDP-150 BLU-RAY 3D(TM) DISC PLAYER WITH NETWORK FEATURES (BDP-150). Would be great if the technical team was already working on newer chipsets. In this case € 500,- is a bit excessive to my taste. I have a Denon DVD-3800BD which is still great as a BD player, so I'm looking for a limited additional spend for just ripping SACD's.

Thanks again! It's a real shame the Pio 180 does not (yet) work for ripping. These are unused seller accounts stolen by scammers. Many second hand 103 or 103D are available now on Ebay (around 500€), and maybe new stock can still be found at some official dealers (at 700€ for the 103, 850€ for the 103D).Ī warning about those cheap Oppo offerings on the Marketplace, with an invitation to get in contact by email. Since the Pioneer 170 is extremely difficult to find - even second hand -, and the Pioneer BDP-80FD is only available in the US, the best option would be an Oppo 103.
